Condensation and evaporation of interstellar clouds in chemodynamical models of galaxies

چکیده
The network of interactions between hot gas, cool clouds, massive stars, and stellar remnants used in the chemodynamical modeling of the interstellar medium is investigated for the types of its solutions. In a physically consistent formulation for the energy transfer during condensation, oscillations due to a cyclic switching between condensation and evaporation never occur. A closed-box system evolves in a hierarchy of equilibria: thermal balance in the cloud gas, star-formation selfregulated due to heating of the clouds by massive stars, and the balance of condensation and evaporation. Except for an initial transitory phase, the evolution of the metallicity follows that of the Simple Model quite closely. For galaxies with a high initial density, or if the condensation rate is low, the metals produced by the stars may remain stored in the hot gas phase even in evolved systems with low gas fractions.

Star Formation Regulation, Gas Cycles and the Chemical Evolution of Dwarf Irregular Galaxies
Due to their low gravitational energies, dwarf galaxies are greatly exposed to energetical influences from internal and external sources. By means of chemodynamical models we show that their star formation is inherently self-regulated, that peculiar abundance ratios can only be achieved assuming different star-formation episodes and that evaporation of interstellar clouds embedded in a hot phas...

Since the chemical evolution of galaxies seems to differ between morphological types and deviates in many details from the standard scenario the question has to be addressed when, how and to what amount metal-enriched ejecta from Supernovae and Planetary Nebulae polute their environment. Since recent observations of dwarf galaxies show no significant metal abundance gradients throughout the gal...

Abstract. We present our recently developed 3-dimensional chemodynamical code for galaxy evolution. This code follows the evolution of different galactic components like stars, dark matter and different components of the interstellar medium (ISM), i.e. a diffuse gaseous phase and the molecular clouds. Stars and dark matter are treated as collisionless N-body systems. The ISM is numerically desc...

Because of their low gravitational energies dwarf galaxies are greatly exposed to energetical influences by the interstellar medium, like e.g. stellar radiation, winds or explosions, or by their environment. While the metallicity depletion in dwarf galaxies can be explained in general by supernova-driven galactic winds, the reason for their low N/O ratios at low O abundance is not yet completel...
متن کاملEvaporation and condensation processes of giant molecular clouds in a hot plasma
2D hydrodynamical simulations are performed to examine the evaporation and condensation processes of giant molecular clouds in the hot phase of the interstellar medium. The evolution of cold and dense clouds (T = 1000 K, nH = 3 cm , M = 6 ·10 M⊙) is calculated in the subsonic stream of a hot tenuous plasma (T = 5 · 10 K, nH = 6 · 10 −4 cm). Our code includes self-gravity, heating and cooling pr...
